LAHORE - With the restoration of the provincial political dispensation to the pre-February 25 position, Shahbaz Sharif-led government has brought back all its men to the province and posted them against the same posts, which has resulted in another massive reshuffle of the civil and police bureaucracy. The old but new incumbents were directed to report to their respective offices before 6 pm, and attend a meeting in official capacities, which was chaired by Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif in the late evening. About three days back, we were given directions that we should not report for our new postings in Islamabad, and must stay back in the Punjab, confided a senior officer. Moreover, staff of the Chief Ministers Secretariat was also sent back to their original positions of February 24 , and by the evening on Tuesday, the whole circle was almost complete. Secondly, top cops have also been called back to the province, while a few have been made Officers on Special Duty. The very first day after the Supreme Court decision, all the major slots were given to their previous incumbents. Moreover, it is being expected that former Chief Secretary Punjab Javed Mahmood will again be posted as CS, while the Inspector General Police stands less chances considering the fact that he is retiring within next three weeks. However, there is a possibility that he may be given another stint, the shortest one as the top cop of the province, but this can be done for an honourable exit for a man chosen by the Shahbaz administration, said the officer after re-joining the office, while adding that Javed Mahmood would be coming back to his previous post within next two days at maximum. Good officers will be kept in the Punjab, and it will not be 100 per cent reshuffle of the bureaucracy, he said. According to a source, the newly posted District Coordination Officers Jhelum and Mianwali Waseem Ajmal Chaudhry and Additional Secretary Higher Education Department Tariq Waqar Bakhshi respectively were stopped from joining their new posts. No doubt, there will be reversal of a lot of decisions, but the effort is to fill the working gap, which was halted for six weeks, he said, while negating the assertion that the mood in the power corridors was vindictive towards the Governors nominees and his chosen men.
