LAHORE-Following restoration of Shahbaz govt in Punjab as a result of apex courts interim order, the PPP leadership has decided to adopt a 'wait and see policy, asking party Ministers not to sit in their offices till a final decision to quit or to be part of the present set up in Punjab. A final decision on whether to sit in the Opposition or on Treasury benches is expected in couple of days when partys CEC meets at Larkana on April 3 in connection with Z.A Bhuttos death anniversary, a PPP source told The Nation on Tuesday. The PPP Ministers who also stand restored after the court decision met here on Tuesday with Senior Minister Raja Riaz in the chair, to chalk out future strategy. Raja Riaz contacted Prime Minister Gilani during the meeting, who asked the Ministers not to sit in their offices till a decision is made in this regard. Gilani further told Raja that he was in contact with President Asif Ali Zardari, currently on a visit to Turkey, and was keeping him posted about the developments. Meanwhile, the Ministers decided not to attend any Cabinet meeting unless they get a green signal from President Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani. The meeting was attended by all PPP Ministers except Neelum Jabbar who could not make it due to personal reasons. Punjab Minister for Labour, Ashraf Sohna pleaded during the meeting that PPP should sit in the Opposition to secure better future for the party in Punjab. He was of the view that PPP will have more chances of success in next election if it sat on Opposition benches for rest of the tenure. Meanwhile, in a late night development, Adviser to Punjab Chief Minister, Sardar Zulfiqar Khosa had a meeting with Senior Minister Raja Riaz and Finance Minister Tanvir Ashraf Kaira, and told them that Shahbaz Sharif wanted PPP to remain part of the coalition as before. He also assured that all reservations of PPP with regard to power-sharing in Punjab would be addressed adequately. Raja Riaz, in turn, told Sardar Khosa that they would respond to PML-Ns offer of joining the govt after consultation with President Zardari who was in Turkey at the moment. He also thanked Shahbaz Sharif for extending the offer. It is to be noted that in a meeting of PPPs Punjab Parliamentary party chaired by President Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday last, it was decided that PPP will sit on Opposition benches and extend unconditional support to PML-N candidate in case assembly has to elects a new Chief Minister. In case of restoration of February 24 status in Punjab, Zardari had told Punjab legislators that PPP may continue to be part of the govt, but before deciding so it would settle terms and conditions of its future alliance with the PML-N. 'We will not sit on Treasury benches alongwith PML-N, unless the latter so desires and gives concrete guarantees that it would give due respect and status to PPP Ministers and MPAs, he then told party men while also lamenting that in the past, they (PML-N) did not give respect PPP MPAs. Zardari had also said that ball was now in PML-Ns court and that future relationship with that party hinged on latters conduct. Earlier, while talking to reporters after chairing a meeting of PPP Ministers, Raja Riaz said that President Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani would take decision either to sit in the Opposition or to be part of the govt. The PPPs Parliamentary party, he said, had already decided to sit on opposition benches, though it had authorised President Zardari to take a final decision in this regard. To a question about the possibility of PPP making a decision to continue to be part of the provincial Government after having sore relationship with PML-N over the past one month, he replied that everything was fair in politics. He said PPP would continue to extend unconditional support to PML-N govt in Punjab even if it decided to sit on Opposition benches. Replying to a question, Raja Riaz said that Shahbaz Sharif did not contact him personally after restoration of his govt.
