A foreign office source said the meeting will particularly focus on security matters and review the situation arising out of the growing militancy and terrorist attacks in Afghanistan and Pakistan and stress on greater coordination to tackle it. Turkey , being a close friend of Pakistan and Afghanistan , took the initiative of bringing them closer who in the past witnessed a tense relationship and regularly traded allegations of cross border infiltration while accusing the other of sponsoring attacks. Turkey hosted tripartite summits in 2007 and 2008 to remove misunderstandings and to increase collaboration between the two in all vital areas. The Ankara summit will be held at the presidential palace, where the three heads of states supported by the heads of their respected armed forces and intelligence chiefs will discuss the Taliban threat and forge out a strategy to counter it. The summit has gained significance in the backdrop of the new strategy unveiled by President Obama on Afghanistan that combines extra troops for the strife torn country, funds for Afghanistan and Pakistan , and a renewed focus on targeting Al-Qaeda militants in Afghanistan and the border region along Pakistan . President Zardari will also discuss bilateral matters with Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Turkish President Abdullah Gul on the sidelines, before heading for the summit. In the second trilateral meeting at Istanbul on Dec 5 last, Pakistan , Afghanistan and Turkey vowed to evolve a joint strategy to combat terrorism, work for regional peace, security and stability, while burying the past differences. The day-long summit reviewed in detail the state of existing ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan and discussed ways to forge closer bonds.
