Islamabad - Minister for Interior Ahsan Iqbal on Thursday stressed the need for police to become public-friendly in order to effectively control crime.

 The minister, who paid a surprise visit to several police stations of the capital, including Ramna, Secretariat and Kohsar, highlighted that the police should make it their obligation to serve the public and facilitate the people coming to the police stations.

 A statement issued by the interior ministry says that Ahsan Iqbal reviewed police stations’ reporting rooms and also checked their daily preliminary report registers. The on-duty reporting room staff of police stations briefed the minister on the occasion.

 The minister, after a brief chat with the complainants in police stations, issued orders for immediate resolution of their problems. He also reviewed the under-construction building of Ramna Police Station and directed the authorities to complete the work as soon as possible.

During his visit to the Secretariat Police Station, he admonished concerned officers for delay in construction of Model Community Center and directed that all police stations should establish a community center on priority.

Inspector General of Police Islamabad Muhammad Khalid Khattak on Thursday said that Islamabad police was determined to ensure protection of life and property of citizens.

While was addressing a meeting of officers of Islamabad police at Police Lines Headquarters , he said that Islamabad police is a very professional force which has dutifully fulfilled its lawful obligations. He lauded the sacrifices offered by the police officers who lost their lives while performing duties.

IG Police said that all possible financial assistance will be extended to the police officers and personnel injured in the recent sit-in at Faizabad. He said that suggestions given to him during the meeting will be used for formulating future strategy, adding that such meetings will be held every month.

He further said that despite limited financial resources, Islamabad police, Punjab Constabulary and Frontier Constabulary managed to overcome the challenges of law and order with effective strategies. The Inspector General Police said that many police personnel were severely injured while one constable Israr Ahmed lost his eyes during deployment at Faizabad. He said police officers will visit the homes of the injured and would extend all kinds of help to them.
