LAHORE - In an effort to raise money and support for the flood victims in Pakistan, Hashemite Charity organised a polo match in Jordan. The effort was supported by the Polo associations of both the countries, Pakistan Embassy and Warid Telecom. A lump-sum donation of hundred thousand JDR was announced by Hashemite Charity which is approximately around 120 million PKR. Chairperson HRH Prince Rashid Bin el Hassan was captain of Royal Jordanian Polo Club (RJPC). Warid polo team was captained by Muhammad Usman Rana. It was an exciting and friendly match, with wonderful performance from both the sides. The match ended in a 5-5 draw. The match started at a very fast pace when Warid team took the lead in the very first minute through Usman Rana with a solo effort. The lead was quickly equalised by a penalty shot taken by HRH Prince Rashid. The rest of the chukkar saw very fast paced polo with both the teams missing goals from close range. During the last minute of the chukkar, RJPC got a penalty hit which was converted by HRH Prince Rashid without any problem. In the second chukkar, Warid team came strongly and equalised the score at two a piece. In the middle of the chukkar, HRH Prince Rashid received a pass from Major Haseeb which he converted with a long range shot taking a 3-2 lead over the Warid team. During the closing stages of the second chukkar, Raja Badr-ud-din stole the ball from Major Haseeb and scored a beautiful goal to once again level the scores at three goals each. The third chukkar was dominated by RJPC but could manage only one goal through Taimoor Nadeem making the score 4-3. The Warid team could not add to their tally so the score stood at 4-3 in favour of RJPC. The Warid team was lacking team work and enthusiasm and in the start of the fourth chukkar, the RJPC scored yet again their fifth goal through Major Haseeb who hustled the ball to the finish line making the score 5-3. This was a wakeup call for Warid team which got their act together and started playing well. Pakistan number one Hissam Hyder and captain Usman Rana started putting the RJPC team under pressure and in the process, scored two quick goals and equalised the scores in the very last seconds ended the match at five goals each which brought to the end to a very exciting days play and display of share strength and skilful performance by both the teams. The umpires were Raaid Rifai and Bruno. HRH crown Prince Hassan bin Talal was kind enough to be the chief guest at this event and distributed prizes at the end of the game along with Pakistan Ambassador to Jordan Atia Mahmood and Defence AttachT Colonel Haider Ali. Other members of the royal family also graced the occasion including HRH Princess Sarveth bin el Hassan, HRH Princess Rahma, HRH Prince Hashim bin el Hussain and HRH Prince Abbas bin Ali. Guests included a large number of diplomats and the Pakistani and Jordanian community, adding up to be around 500 attendees. A handsome amount of 100,000 JDR was collected as a result of this extravagant charity event.
