LAHORE In an effort to dispel negative propaganda being carried out by certain quarters, especially his political opponents, Governor Punjab Salman Taseer has made it clear by asserting that he is in favour of reviewing a few controversial clauses of the blasphemy law, and never demanded the doing away with the blasphemy law. This is absolutely not a bad demand. My views have been endorsed by PML-Ns Ayaz Mir, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sana Ullah, PPPs Sherry Rehman and PTI Chief Imran Khan, he said, while addressing a press conference here on Friday. He was accompanied by President PPP Punjab Imtiaz Safdar Warriach. However, when the Governor was quizzed about pinpointing the clauses he wanted to be reviewed, he could only say, It is to be decided by the parliament. He did not elaborate. Earlier, certainly not wishing to land himself in troubled waters, Imtiaz Warriach saved his skin by asserting that he would not comment on Asia Bibis case 'since the matter is sub-judice. However, he backed his colleague Salmaan Taseer by asserting that he had full faith in the Governor as far as the issue was concerned. The PPP has its own point of view regarding the blasphemy law, he added. While commenting on the WikiLeaks, Warriach averred that the secret cables were personal opinions of diplomats and different people. We have strongly contradicted the allegations levelled in the WikiLeaks, and even the US officials have also termed them misleading wrong reports, he said, adding that these were aimed at creating misunderstanding among Muslim countries and other states. He denied the assertion regarding aerial firing in his public gatherings. About MPA Sajida Mir, he maintained that they had not discussed anything about the lady Mir in the meeting, while she attended the parliamentary committee meeting. However, he averred that the Punjab Ministers belonging to the PPP were powerless in comparison to the PML-N ones, the Chief Minister Punjab was running the province through task forces. Warriach vowed to mobilise the Party keeping in mind the upcoming local body polls and general elections. I will make all efforts to win Punjab in the coming elections, he added.
