70 marriage halls razed by KDA

KARACHI - Little but impressive action were witnessed by Karachi Development Authority (KDA) on strict orders f Supreme Court of Pakistan to evacuate illegal occupied 35000 amenity plots located in various parts of Karachi.

The Karachi Development Authority (KDA) claimed to have razed 70 marriage halls built illegally on amenity plots of the city during last six days. These demolished illegal marriage halls were exists in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan e Johar, New Karachi, Surjani and North Nazimabad areas of the city.

However, hundreds of illegal marriages halls are still present in the city, dozens of them on main University Road its side lanes. It is learnt that the government lands worth more than Rs10 trillion are encroached upon in Karachi by land mafia that is supported by the present and past rulers of the city and province.

Due to political and bureaucratic connections of the encroachers, KDA has faced stiff resistance in razing their illegal structures as Rangers and police provide assistance to the demolition squad and of KDA for peaceful action against illegal occupation on government land.

However, Karachi Devel0pment Authority vowed to remove all illegal encroachment from all amenity plots of the city within two months as per the orders of apex court.
