islamabad - The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad has chalked out best traders-friendly policies, which would not only help improve business and economic activities but also provide best employment opportunities in the federal capital.

Islamabad Mayor Sheikh Anser Aziz said this while talking to the media after inaugurating a commercial centre at F-6 Markaz.

Aziz said that the MCI was committed to bringing rural areas at par with the urban areas. He, however, said that they were facing some difficulties as it was the first ever experience of the municipal system in Islamabad.

He said that the municipal system would be made fully functional to turn Islamabad into a very beautiful city. Aziz said that “we have improved the financial discipline of the CDA and ensured good governance and transparency”.

He said that right from the day one, it was their priority to pay heed to day-to-day affairs of the authority and the management system has been improved and financial discipline consolidated due to the new and effective policies.

Aziz said that commercial plots were auctioned by the past governments without provision of facilities due to which the traders faced great difficulties including delays in construction on plots , increase in the cost of construction material and slow business activities in the city.

He said that in this regard, he has met traders’ representatives particularly with representatives of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the outcome of these meetings was great and we received valuable suggestions from the traders, which helped improve our policies.

The Islamabad mayor said that in the light of the business-friendly policies, no commercial plots would be auctioned without the provision of facilities. He said that due to effective and commercial friendly policies, this year auction of commercial plots broke the previous records, while traders actively participated in the auction. He said that plots of billions of rupees have been auctioned successfully in a very transparent manner

Aziz said that due to the consistent increase in the population, he has directed the authority for auction of more plots to overcome the future need of the residents. He said that “our policies would further strengthen the confidence of traders on the authority as we are successfully heading towards the resolution of long standing issues including the issues of extension in the lease period to the traders and construction of additional storey-buildings”.

He said that due to the traders friendly policies, different types of national and international brands were introducing their businesses. He said that being chairman of CDA, his priority was to promote business and economic activities as the geographic position of Islamabad was of immense importance.

He further said that the MCI possessed the legal mandate of public-private partnership, under which several projects have been initiated. However, he added that mega projects would also be started for the residents of Islamabad in the next few months under the public-private partnership initiative.
