Smith wins Australian PGA in play-off

GOLD COAST - Cameron Smith claimed the Australian PGA championship when he beat fellow Australian Jordan Zunic on the second play-off hole on Queensland's Gold Coast on Sunday. Smith and Zunic finished the tournament locked at 18 under par 270 on Royal Pines Resort course. Smith started the day three shots behind Zunic but fired his fourth consecutive sub-70 round with a four-under 68 to peg back the overnight leader. "I tried to stay aggressive all day," Smith said. "With Jordan's lead that he had, I thought that I had to stay aggressive. I knew he was playing well." Smith grew up in nearby Brisbane and is considered the rising star of Australian golf. Zunic was disappointed, particularly after his superb eight-under round of 64 on Saturday. Adam Bland finished one shot behind Smith and Zunic.–AFP

LAHORE – Dharampura Sports defeated Power Tiger Club by 6 runs in a thrilling high scoring encounter played here the other day. Dharampura Sports , batting first, scored 312 runs in 30 overs. Momin Khan was top scorer with 140 runs while Shafi Ullah slammed 51 and Hameed Khan 59. Sajjad took 2 wickets for 60 runs. Gymkhana clinch Lahore Golf Cup

LAHORE - Lahore Gymkhana prevailed over Defence Raya team with an advantage of one and half points to clinch the 1st Lahore Golf Cup competitive event here on Sunday. The 20-member each team of Royal Palm, Defence Raya and Lahore Gymkhana came to a nerve shattering conclusion after three days of battle, with first round played at Royal Palm on Friday, the second at Defence Raya on Saturday and the final round at Gymkhana golf course Sunday. In the overall reckoning, Gymkhana managed to accumulate a three-day aggregate of 72 points as against 70.5 points compiled by their nearest rivals Defence Raya. Royal Palm did not fare well and could gather only 37.5 points. Defence Raya captain Dr Dildar Chaudry, along Gymkhana convener golf Shaukat Javed and Gobi Paints CEO Asim Zafar, gave away winning trophy to Gymkhana captain Amir Mehmood.–Staff Reporter

Third round matches of league decided

LAHORE - The third round matches of the Premier Cricket League were decided here at various grounds of the city. At Model Town Whites Ground, Descon defeated Fatima Group by one wicket. Fatima Group decided to play first after winning the toss and scored 132-8 in the allotted overs. Descon, in reply, achieved that target in just 10 overs and won the match by one wicket. Mubashir Iqbal was declared man of the match. The second match was contested between ICI and 3 DMS at race course ground where 3DMS routed ICI by 6 wickets. ICI, batting first, posted 159-6 on the board and in reply, 3DMS achieved the target in 19.2 overs. Khurrum Siddique emerged as man of the match. In the third match played at Model Town Whites Ground, Jazz beat Akzonobal by 5 wickets. Akzonobal scored 159-4 which Jazz achieved in 15.2 overs.
