SIALKOT - The mega project of establishing 225MW new powerhouse along the banks of Upper Chenab Canal near Nandipur has been delayed due to the alleged opposition between the Ministry of Water and Power and Ministry of Law, as the both of these ministries were opposing each others proposals regarding the completion of this mega project. Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) President Ghulam Mustafa Chaudhary and Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Sh Sarwat Ikram expressed grave concern over the delay in the completion of this project, urging the government to remove all the hurdles to the way of timely completion of this project in the large interest of business community of both Sialkot and Gujranwala districts a s well. The project of establishing new powerhouse near Nandipur along the banks of Upper Chenab Canal (UCC), at the junction of both neighbouring Sialkot and Gujranwala districts, had been started in 2008 and it had to be completed in December 2010. The civil work of this project has been completed. Some of the heavy machinery was lying unattended at the project site and some machinery was lying unattended there at Karachi Port due to the alleged slackness of the concerned senior officials. The officials concerned said on the condition of anonymity that the differences were mounted between the above mentioned federal ministries due to which the said project was delayed. The millions of dollars were also lying stuck up there in this project. The presidents of SCCI and GCCI said that the early completion of the project was the need of the day to overcome the menace of the energy crisis in the country. They said that the project was also aimed of providing the uninterrupted power supply to the industries of Sialkot and Gujranwala as well.
