KARACHI Five persons including an Imam of a local mosque were shot dead in various incidents in the provincial metropolis here on Sunday. In the first incident which took place in the limits of Sohrab Goth police station, gunmen targeted an Imam Masjid standing outside the mosque. Gunmen arrived on a motorbike at the mosque located at Ayub Goth and shot him thrice. DSP Iftikhar Lodhi said that the deceased identified as 46-year-old Gul Khan, was son of Abdul Khaliq. The Imam Masjid accompanied by his companion Fazl-ur-Rehman was standing outside the mosque when two gunmen arrived and shot him three times. The attackers managed to flee after the incident while the victim sustained bullet injuries and succumbed to his injures on the way to hospital. Police remain clueless to find the motive behind the killing while suspecting personal enmity as a reason behind the killing. In another incident of target killing, a worker of a nationalist party was shot dead in the limits of Sachal police station. The deceased was an activist of Sindh National Party (SNP) and was gunned down by two unidentified attackers riding a motorcycle and targeted him when he came outside his fathers home. The culprits managed to flee while victim was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. The deceased was identified as 35-year-old Khadim, son of Ghulam,who used to work in a local factory. Police said victim was affiliated with the SNP and was a resident of Korangi. The family of the victim took the body without any legal formalities. Separately in Orangi Town, a teenager was killed near his residence in Qasba Colony within the jurisdiction of Pirabad police station. Police said that the victim identified as Fazl-ur-Rehman, 17, son of Khan Zaman, was standing outside his house when unidentified gunmen shot him once on his head with pointblank range and escaped. The victim died on the way to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. However, his family took the body away without legal formalities. Elsewhere, a 32-old Rafiq Ghani was shot and killed in Sector 9-F/1, Baldia Town within the jurisdiction of Saeedabad police station. Police said that deceased was not affiliated with any political and religious party. At least four armed men on a car shot and killed the victim when he was on his way to workplace. The case was registered against unidentified assailants. Meanwhile, a body of an unidentified person was found near from Ghas Mandi within the limits of Napier police station. Police said that the identity of the victim was yet to be ascertained. Deceaseds hands and legs were tied with rope. Unidentified people kidnapped and tortured him before shooting him twice. His body was shifted to morgue for identification after autopsy. Police suspect Lyari gangsters were behind the murder.
