CDG anti-adulteration kicking off from today

LAHORE The City District Government is all set to launch a vigorous campaign against adulteration, hoarding, over pricing, spurious drugs, unhygienic and illegally slaughtered meat and water theft across the district from today (Monday), TheNation has learnt. The CDG high-ups have constituted nine town specific teams (Town Implementation Committees) headed by the administrator concerned to carryout the operation to eradicate sources of general public nuisance. District Officer (DO) Monitoring and Inquiries Amin Akbar Chopra will coordinate, monitor and supervise the entire operation to be carried out by nine Town Implementation Committees (TICs). The TICs will be headed by the administrator concerned while other members include food inspector, representative of CDG livestock department, drug inspector, one officer from each police station falling in the jurisdiction of respective towns, inspector labour and town officer regulations of the relevant town. As such the strength of each TIC will vary as there are different numbers of police stations in various towns. There are 15 PSs in Data Gunj Bukhsh Town, 11 in Ravi Town, 10 in Samanabad Town, 09 each in Iqbal Town and Aziz Bhatti Town, 08 in Gulberg Town, 05 each in Shalamar and Nishtar Town and 04 in Wahga Town. To make the campaign effective and result oriented, the CDG has sought assistance of special branch to provide accurate information about adulterators as well as persons involved in water theft for irrigation purposes. To minimise complaints regarding misuse of powers by officers, Administrator CDG and DCO Ahad Khan Cheema has made it clear that no single person would be authorised to inspect any premises and the raids would be carried out by dedicated teams along with video recording. All the administrators of towns have already held training sessions for the officers in raiding teams to provide them guideline on certain law points. Besides imposition of fine through ticketing, prosecution through submission of complaints by designated inspectors and criminal proceedings will also be initiated against violations. The DCO has also directed district prosecutor to prepare a comprehensive plan for effective prosecution of cases of adulteration and other offences contained in the subject campaign.
