A civil miscellaneous application was moved in the Lahore High Court on Friday seeking directives for the Punjab government to come up with the record if any notified smog policy was implemented in Punjab.
Petitioner Sheraz Zaka said no smog policy was enforced so far. He stated the government was taking ‘soft’ action against factories causing smog, endangering public health. Moreover, he said trees were uprooted in Lahore in the name of development without caring about environment. The main petition was filed by Waleed Iqbal, the grandson of poet Dr Allama Iqbal, over environmental pollution. On last hearing, the LHC ordered the environment department to enforce smog policy. The court sought the copy of draft. The court would resume hearing on November 8. –Staff Reporter
