BAJAUR AGENCY -  As many as eight children lost their lives while two others sustained injuries in a landslide incident in Bajaur Agency on Friday.

Officials said that the tragic incident occurred at around 11am in Gardai area, some 12km east of Khar, headquarters of Bajaur Agency.

They said a group of children of the nearby houses were busy in digging sand from a dune when a heap suddenly caved in burying them all alive under the rubble. Soon after the incident, local people rushed to the site and started rescue work.

Later Levies personnel also reached with excavator and retrieved seven bodies and two wounded children from the rubble. Both injured kids were shifted to the agency headquarters hospital Khar for medical treatment.

However, Assistant Medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr Naseeb Gul told reporters that one of the wounded kids succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. The dead included seven girls and a boy.

The political administration launched an inquiry into the incident to find out the cause behind the incident. Local people demanded the administration to announce appropriate compensation package for the affected families.
