The Lahore High Court on Monday gave another chance to the federal government to submit reply in petitions challenging “Electoral Reform Act 2017” which paved way for disqualified prime minister Nawaz Sharif to head his  political party.

Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah was hearing the petitions moved by Azhar Siddique and others. During the proceedings, a law officer pleaded the court to give some time to submit reply. The court accepted the plea and directed the law officer to come up with the reply on the next hearing, Dec 12.

The petitioners said that the SC had disqualified Nawaz Sharif as Prime Minister but now he had made head of PML-N. They said that disqualified person cannot lead a political party but through new law he has been made as head of the party which is against the spirit of the Constitution. They prayed the court to bar Nawaz Sharif from leading PML-N.
