ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leadership accorded a warm welcome to senior politician Makhdoom Javed Hashmi at Punjab House Monday.

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif embraced Hashmi and held him in arms for some time as the latter arrived to meet the former.

Senior party leaders Kh Saad Rafique, Mushahidullah Khan, Maryam Nawaz Sharif and others also attended the meeting.  ‘Welcome home’, Maryam remarked briefly.

Insiders in the party said many issues were resolved before the meeting but officially PML-N Spokesman Mushahidullah Khan said that the meeting was arranged on the desire of ex-PM.

Although Hashmi has rejoined the party, a formal announcement in this connection would be made in due course of time. Besides inquiring after Kalsoom Nawaz, Hashmi discussed the overall political situation with Nawaz.

Hashmi had differences with Nawaz in 2011 and joined PTI.

After the 2013 elections, when the PTI staged a sit-in against the government he left Imran Khan’s party levelling serious allegations against Khan.

Political analysts said Hashmi’s rejoining of PML-N would have little political implications but definitely it would give morale boosting to the party facing hardships on political and legal fronts.

Sources in the party said the party leadership was trying to bring back the estranged leaders to reject rumours about party split.

The party leadership would likely approach Ghous Ali Shah and other stalwarts like Sardar Zulfiqar Khosa.
