GUJRAT - A national training workshop titled “Modelling, Simulation and Scientific Data Analysis” was organised by the mathematics department of the University of Gujrat (UoG) here at Hafiz Hayat Campus on Monday.

Objective of the workshop was to introduce to students the latest mathematical trends and techniques being employed worldwide for the scientific analysis of research data.

Among the experts were Dr Sirajul Islam, Dr Fayyaz Ahmad, Dr Muhammad Asif Zahoor Raja and Dr Farooq Ahmad. The opening session was presided over by mathematics department chairperson Dr Iftikhar Ahmad with faculty of sciences dean Dr Muhammad Faheem Malik as chief guest and ORIC director Dr Abdul Majid as guest of honour.

Dr Faheem stressed the need for awareness and promotion of latest scientific developments among student scholars and researchers. “Our universities do have the potential to help boost the social and economic progress and development of the country. It is the basic responsibility of higher education institutions to find out indigenous solutions to local industry’s problems,” Dr Faheem said. Dr Abdul Majid highlighted the importance of mathematics in scientific research. He said the ORIC at UoG had been playing a pivotal role in promotion of research culture, adding that declaring 2017 as the year of innovation and productivity at the UoG had had a positive impact in this regard. Dr Iftikhar Ahmad urged the students to devote their energies positively for the betterment of society. Dr Shahida Bashir is the organizing coordinator of the two-day workshop .

 

Bid to kill woman costs PO his life

SIALKOT - Notorious drug trafficker-cum-proclaimed offender Arsalan alias Shani lost his life in a bid to kill a local married woman and her infant daughter after storming their house in village Aadha-Motra, Daske tehsil on Monday.

According to FIR (No. 577/2017) lodged by the Motra police under sections 324 and 452 PPC, Arsalan alias Shani, a notorious drug trafficker, wanted by police dozen cases, stormed into Fauzia house and opened fire on her and her infant daughter Zumar Fatima (one and half years old). But, luckily both the woman and her daughter remained safe. In the meanwhile, Fauzia’s brother Nazir Sultan rushed for their rescue, fired a bullet in the head of the accused after snatching pistol from him (Arsalan). Resultantly Shani died on the spot.

According to the police officials, deceased Arsalan alias Shani was wanted by the police in more than one dozen cases of possessing and selling narcotics in the Daska region.

Police shifted the dead body to Daska Civil Hospital for autopsy and started further investigation.
