ISLAMABAD - PML-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif Thursday exhorted the international community to appreciate Pakistans role in war on terror and extend full cooperation to resolve the issues being confronted by the country. He was speaking at a luncheon, he hosted in the honour of European Union diplomats 20-member delegation. The PML-N leader said Pakistan has been playing a remarkable role in eliminating terrorism, which is threatening the country and the region as well. PML-N senior leaders, including Raja Zafarul Haq, Ahsan Iqbal, Ch Nisar Ali Khan and others were also present on the occasion. Nawaz Sharif urged the EU states to extend all possible cooperation to Pakistan in war against terrorism and provide the country access to their markets to stabilise the economy of the country. Pakistan has sacrificed a lot in its struggle against terrorism, he said, adding that the drone attacks by the United States were counter-productive. He also urged the US leadership to stop drone attacks on Pakistans soil. Nawaz said the world should identify root causes of terrorism and address the issue across the globe, adding that the European states should play their role for economic stability in Pakistan. He also called for EUs assistance to share the governments burden of displaced persons rehabilitation, rendered homeless after military operation in Swat and other parts of the Malakand division. Pakistan is facing a crucial moment and the international community should come forward to help steer the country out of the crises, PML-N Quaid said. On current political situation, Nawaz said his party would continue extending unconditional cooperation to strengthen democracy in the country. Earlier, he held an informal consultative meeting with party colleagues and discussed political, economic and security situation of the country. Later, he left for Murree along with his family for an overnight stay and is likely to meet the visiting US Special Envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke today (Friday). APP adds: Holbrooke also called on PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif and discussed bilateral issues, with particular focus on the war against terrorism, party sources said. During the meeting at Punjab House, the PML-Nawaz Chief asked the United States to stop drone attacks as they were not only proving counter-productive in Pakistans efforts against terrorism but also casting negative effects in the region. He said Pakistan had been playing due role to eliminate terrorism and the world should give a due appreciation in this regard, adding that it is also direly needed that international community extends all possible assistance in this regard. Both the sides also discussed the military operation in Swat and other parts of Malakand division and emphasised that no one would be allowed to disrupt peace, the sources said. The US envoy lauded Pakistans fight against terrorism and also appreciated the PML-N role to strengthen democracy in the country.
