Suo moto notice of security guard's suicide

LAHORE - Chief Justice Lahore High Court Khawaja Muhammad Sharif while taking a suo moto notice has directed the SSP Operations Lahore to file a detailed report about suicide of a private security companys guard due to non-payment of salary. The CJ took notice on a news item published in a local newspaper on Thursday (June 04) saying that one Salman Shafiq Butt (31), brother of two local journalists, committed suicide after he was denied two-month salary by his security agency, owned by a retired colonel Muhammad Safdar. Taking suo moto notice, Justice Khawaja Sharif observed that the news item had invited attention of the public at large and especially the media community. Such incidents had attained alarming proportions; therefore, he would like to know the actual facts and the progress in the matter. According to details, the security agency had deployed him at a CNG Station owned by a PML-N MPA Rana Muhammad Afzal in Hunza Block Allama Iqbal Town after his appointment around two months back on April 1 and continued performing his duties till May 29, the day he committed suicide. According to the news item, the family of the deceased alleged that Salman Shafiq was very upset because his employer had not paid him even his first salary despite the lapse of two months. The deceased after being disappointed by the attitude and financial constraints committed suicide with the rifle of his agency. The family members further alleged that the agency had received an amount of Rs 120,00 each from the CNG Station owners in April and May respectively for providing them the services but they had not made any payment to the victim. They also said the police in connivance with the influential owner were employing different tactics to hide the actual facts. Moreover, the owner of CNG Station was not issuing them the clearance certificate because of pressure. The family of the deceased appealed to the chief justice Lahore High Court to take notice of the incident and deliver justice to them. suo moto of gang rape-cum-murder incident Chief Justice Lahore High Court took suo moto notice of gang rape-cum-murder incident committed by a doctor and other servants of Amin Hospital in Sheikhupura and summoned DPO Sheikhupura and SHO concerned today (June 5) along with complete record of the case. The incident was reported in a national daily on Thursday. According to the news item, a widow Hameedan of Faizpur was employed in Amin Hospital owned by Dr Iftikhar Ahmad. The doctor along with his servants Anwar Ali and Amjad committed gang rape with Iqra (15), daughter of Hameedan, and when her condition became precarious, she was administered poison causing her death. The CJ also directed the advocate general Punjab to assist the court on the matter.
