‘Kidney-stealing’ doctor remanded

Rawalpindi - A local court yesterday sent a doctor arrested in connection with illegal kidney transplantation to Adiala Jail on judicial remand yesterday.

Magistrate Waqar Mansoor Baryar sent Dr Raja Mehmood, a member of a kidney stealing racket, to Adiala Jail on 14 days of judicial remand.

According to details, Rawat police produced the accused Dr Raja Mehmood before the court and sought his further remand.

However, the judge rejected the police plea and ordered to shift the accused to Adiala Jail on judicial remand. The court postponed the hearing in the case till November 18, 2016.

Earlier, the four accused Zafar Iqbal, Faqeer Hussain, Shehzad Qayyum alias Shani and Balqees Bibi are also in Adiala Jail.

During a raid in a plaza located in private housing society on October 15, Rawat police held four members of kidney trafficking racket, besides recovering 24 people including four women who were detained for stealing their kidneys.

A case was registered with Rawat police against Dr Zahid Iqbal, Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, Dr Tauseef Ahmed and Laeeq Ahmed, cashier of the Kidney Centre Rawalpindi, who are still at large.

The police had already sealed Kidney Centre located at Morgah where allegedly operations were to be carried out for illegal transplantation of kidneys.
