‘Quality treatment govt’s top priority’

LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said providing quality treatment facilities to the people is the top priority of his government.

“Different reforms have been made for the improvement of healthcare system of Punjab,” he said while presiding over a meeting.

“Friendly country Turkey is also ready to extend cooperation in Punjab healthcare system. Cooperation will be sought from everywhere for betterment, he said.

He said that Turkey made its healthcare system active and vibrant during the last few years and experience of Turkey would be benefited.

For this purpose, he added that a delegation will visit Turkey.

Health Adviser Khawaja Salman Rafiq, Parliamentary Secretary Khawaja Imran Nazir and officials concerned attended the meeting.

Four vaccinations to be added to EPI in five years

Adviser to Chief Minister on Health Kh Salman Rafiq has issued directed to complete necessary spadework for introducing four vaccines in routine immunisation in next five years.

Chairing the Provincial EPI Steering Committee meeting at Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department yesterday, he said that all out-efforts would be made to reduce child mortality.

Secretary Primary and Secondary Healthcare Ali Jan Khan, Chairman National Immunization Technical Advisery Group Prof Tariq Iqbal Bhutta, Health DG Dr Mukhtar Hussain Syed and other official concerned attended the meeting.

The EPI Steering Committee is the apex technical body guiding the provincial Expanded Programme on Immunisation on technical and strategic decisions. It comprises consultants, pediatricians, health managers and EPI experts.

Kh Salman Rafiq asked the EPI programme to complete homework for the introduction of Rubella, Hepatitis B birth dose, Diphtheria booster dose and DT vaccines. He also sought technical update on introduction of Cervical Cancer vaccine. The meeting reviewed the Diphtheria situation in Punjab and the preventive and curative measures.

Dr Munir Ahmed presented a detailed analysis of Diphtheria situation in Punjab, pattern of cases in the country as well as the status of vaccination in the union councils reporting diphtheria cases in district Kasur.
