Newly appointed CEC takes oath

ISLAMABAD- Justice (retd) Sardar Raza Khan took oath as 25th Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) today.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Naisrul Mulk administrated oath to him in a ceremony where Supreme Court judges, Election Commission of Pakistan officials and Attorney  General of Pakistan were also present.

Yesterday, Sardar Raza, who was performing duties as chief justice of Federal Shariat Court (FSC), tendered his resignation from the post to take oath of his new office.

Following his resignation, the ministry of parliamentary affairs issued a notification regarding his appointment as the CEC. According to the notification, he has been appointed for a five-year term that will begin from his oath-taking day.

Being the CEC, he will face the main uphill task to restore the credibility and impartiality of his institution, as the ECP was shorn of its prestige as a result of a volley of accusations, following May 2013 general elections.
