LAHORE - A 25-year-old young man was shot dead by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) near the Joint Check Post (JCP) Wagha on Sunday. Police claimed that the body was found near Sahankay village of Hadyara which was yet to be identified and said announcements have also been made through mosques for identifying the victim, but no one has so far come forward to recognise him. Police were of the view that after the identification of the deceased it would be possible to establish whether the deceased was involved in smuggling or was killed while crossing the border. However, certain other sources claimed that gunfire was also exchanged between the border forces of the two countries leaving a few personnel on both sides injured. Monitoring Desk adds: A Pakistani youth was killed and some border security personnel were injured on both sides of the border in exchange of fire at Wagha on Sunday, reported a private TV channel, quoting sources. The exchange of fire occurred the night between Saturday and Sunday, when a man tried to cross the border. The security guards on duty opened fire to stop him. During the exchange of fire, some mortars hit either side of the border, killing a youth crossing the border and injuring personnel of Pakistan Rangers and Indian Border Security Force. Military sources said the officials of border forces from the two counties held a meeting to discuss the incident and decided not to repeat such incidents in future. Meantime, sources said the Federal Government had ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident.
