Parcel bomb injures BNP MNA, family

KARACHI - Balochistan National Party (Awami) MNA Yaqoob Bizenjo and his family members on Friday suffered injuries when a low-intensity parcel bomb exploded at his residence at Khayaban-e-Ittehad, DHA Phase-VI in the limits of Darakhshan Police Station. The injured identified as MNA Yaqoob Bizenjo, his mother, wife, daughter Naz Bibi and brother were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and Aga Khan Hospital. Police said Yaqoobs brother opened the parcel inside the drawing room which exploded with a bang, injuring the family members and damaging the room. Police did not rule out the possibility of the terror activity as terrorists wanted to spread panic and fear among the government functionaries. Police said about 200 grams home-made explosives were used to prepare the parcel bomb which exploded as soon the parcel was opened. Police included five persons including three servants of the MNA in the investigation and claimed to have got valuable information from them about the perpetrators. Talking to The Nation, Station Investigation Officer (SIO) Sarwar Commando who is also an investigation officer of the case said that soon after the incident, he on a tip-off raided City Bus Stand situated at Yousuf Goth and took two transporters namely Zafar and Yousuf into the custody whose transport had been used in bringing the parcel to Karachi from Turbat. Police investigator said that the terrorists used the low-intensity bomb whereas high intensity bomb could have been used that suggests that they just wanted to spread fear and terror among the public representatives. The officer further said that the parcel carrying MNAs books and other literature bore the name of Bizenjo which suggested that he was their target. Sources also said the police had started to trace out the mobile phone calls of some of the servants. The parcel was delivered to MNAs guard at his Turbat residence by an unknown postman some two days back who later sent it to Karachi. MNA Bizenjo was elected from NA-272 Mand and had defeated former federal minister Zubaida Jalal. Talking to the reporters, injured Bazenjo said that when a parcel was opened, it suddenly exploded, causing injuries to him and other members of the family. Law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area and house of MNA. DSP Salman Hussain said that a parcel, apparently carrying books, was sent to MNA residence in Balochistan and was brought at his Karachis residence as he was in the city. Hospital sources however said that nobody of the MNA Bizenjos family sustained any serious injury except Bazenjos brother Sanaullah but he is in stable condition. Staff Reporter from Quetta adds: Baloch Liberation Front (BLF) a banned outfit has claimed responsibility for the parcel bomb attack on the house of MNA Yaqoob Bizenjo of Balochistan National Party (Awami) in Karachi. A spokesman of BLF identifying himself as Basham Baloch calling from unspecified location to the offices of newspapers said that Yaqoob Bizenjo was working against the interests of Baloch people. He further said that BLF had prepared a list of 21 MNAs and MPAs who were working against the interests of Baloch and warned that they would also be attacked.
