Election charm pits brother against brothers

AHMEDPUR EAST - The PML-N candidate for NA-183, Ali Hassan Gillani, submitted objections through his counsel Mushtaq Ahmed, and alleged that his elder brother Samiul Hassan Gillani did not mentioned the ownership of Khairpur Daha Petrol Pump and other properties in his nomination papers.
“He (Samiul Hassan) as tehsil nazim of AhmedpurEast was found involved in malpractices and an enquiry against him by the Anti-Corruption Department is still pending,” disclosed Ali Hassan. On the other hand, their brother Suhail Hassan Gillani submitted objections against Ali Hassan and blamed that several criminal cases under Anti-Terrorism Act etc and of illegal occupation of land had been registered with different police stations, demanding that he (Ali) should be declared disqualified.
Meanwhile, Returning Officer Zafar Hussain Bhatti rejected the nomination papers of Sahibzada Faizur Rasheed Abbasi, son of former minister Saeedur Rashid Abbasi, for PP-268 Ahmedpur East. He also directed ex-deputy speaker of the Punjab Assembly, Sahibzada Usman Abbasi, to present his original O level Certificate on April 7 for final decision. Returning Officer asked the petitioner to produce certified copy of NAB decision against Usman Abbasi for his alleged involvement in a scandal.  The returning officer directed PPP candidate for NA-183 Arif Aziz Sheikh to present the Supreme Court’s judgment about his dual-nationality case before him. The RO during scrutiny of the papers of NA candidate Hassan Askari Sheikh asked him to get his vehicle registered till April 7.
Two aspirants of PML-N tickets for PP-268 - Qazi Adnan Farid and Ejaz Baloch - also submitted objections against each other. Ejaz Baloch’s counsel Mehar Mushtaq Ahmed informed the returning officer that Qazi Adnan Farid was defaulter of Rs 17 million of a financial institution.
Similarly, Arshad, secretary general of the PML-N Lawyers’ Forum, accused Ejaz Khan of purchasing four properties worth Rs2.5 million in City Ahmedpur East and its two nearby villages but he did not mention it in his nomination papers. He urged returning officer to initiate an inquiry into it and disqualify Ejaz.
During the scrutiny, it was alleged that ex-MPA from PP-267 Chanigoth-Uchsharif Makhdoom Syed Iftikhar Hassan Gillani’s FA certificate was fake. The judge also heard the objections on various candidates’ papers and fixed next day date for final judgment.
Q LEADERS MEET BNAP CHIEF: PML-Q leaders Syed Salahuddin Ahmed, Syed Sabar Hussain Shah and Syed Ghulam Muhammad called on BNAP Chief Nawab Salahuddin Abbasi at his residence.
The Q leaders assured him of their full support in three NA constituencies of Bahawalpur district. They told Nawab Salahuddin Abbasi that under the directive of PML-Q high-ups, the Q workers would support the BNAP candidates in the three NA and six PA constituencies.
