Rawalpindi - Police are yet to find any lead on the whereabouts of a British national of Pakistani origin, missing since August, reliable sources disclosed on Monday.
Shafkat Hussain, son of Lal Hussain, a resident of Edmonton, North London, went missing from the Benazir Bhutto Islamabad International Airport (BBIIAP) when he arrived from UK through Pakistan International Airline (PIA) flight Number PK-786 at 8am on August 23, 2017.
A kidnapping case has been registered with Police Station (PS) Airport against unknown abductors on the complaint of Sughran Hussain, mother of the missing person. However, police are still clueless about his whereabouts, sources said. The victim’s family appealed to PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Federal Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal and the British High Commission to Pakistan Thomas Drew to come forward to help find the missing doctor.
Superintendent of Police Potohar Division Syed Ali, said that police have written a letter to BBIIAP authorities requesting to provide CCTV footage of the British national the day he landed at the airport. “It was suggested during investigation that Shafkat Hussain withdrew 2000 British pounds from his account in a bank in UK before leaving for Pakistan,” SP said. “I am worried for my son and have been in touch with British High Commission to Pakistan to help me trace him with the help of police and other law enforcement agencies,” said Sughran Hussain, the applicant, while talking to The Nation. She said she had faced troubles in registration of the case with police in Pakistan. She informed that Shafkat had left UK without informing her and she had lodged a missing complaint with Edmonton Police in North London. The UK police then informed her that Shafkat had flown to Pakistan. She said that her son had gotten an MBBS degree from Ayub Medical College but remained unsuccessful in finding employment in UK.
On a query, Sughran Hussain denied any possibility of Shafkat having links with banned outfits.
Meanwhile, two persons including a 13-year-old Christian girl were allegedly kidnapped from different parts of the city. Police have begun investigation after filing cases on complaints of victims.
