Pakistan, UK may enhance trade ties: Sadiq

Islamabad - London Mayor Sadiq Khan has said that there is lot of scope for promoting trade, economic and cultural ties between Pakistan and United Kingdom.

He was addressing a joint press conference here with Minister for Commerce and Textile Muhammad Pervaiz Malik after formal talks. Sadiq Khan expressed hope that the business interactions between Islamabad and London would be further increased with further cooperation at different levels.

The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said close ties between Pakistan and Britain are very strong and these relations are of friendly nature, adding that both Pakistan and United Kingdom have cooperated in various fields including education, tourism, culture and security. He said London is always open for professional Pakistanis belonging to different fields.

He said the close relations of London with Pakistan will be strengthened in future due to cooperation between the two countries at various levels.

            He said there has been better cooperation and close trade ties between the two countries in different fields but still there is plenty of scope existed for further cooperation in various fields.

Commerce Minister Pervaiz Malik asked Mayor of London to send business delegations to Pakistan for investment in the country and promote business to business relations.

The Minister said British entrepreneurs and investors can make investment in the fields of infrastructure and energy in Pakistan besides projects under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor as there is great potential for profit in these sectors.

Replying to a question about the talks, the Commerce Minister said they exchanged views on increasing cooperation in all fields especially to provide more incentives to the British investors to invest in Pakistan.

They also agreed to share their experiences through the process of dialogue regularly and enhance political interaction to promote ideals of democracy.

Mayor of London arrived Pakistan on Wednesday, as he is on his vision to promote his idea of “London is Open” campaign. He came to Pakistan from India and crossed the border through Wagha. During his stay in Pakistan, the Mayor of London will also visit Karachi, after Lahore and Islamabad.
