GUJRAT - Speakers at an anti-corruption seminar underlined role of the youth to weed out corruption from society.

“Corruption is rampant almost in every government department and institution. It is one of the main causes of instability and injustice,” Regional Director Anti-Corruption Gujranwala Farid Ahmad Sheikh while addressing a seminar held here at Hafiz Hayat Campus of the University of Gujrat (UoG) on Thursday. The seminar was organised by the character-building society of the Institute of Hotel and Restaurant Management (IHRM) to mark the World Anti-Corruption Day which is held on December 9 every year.

The seminar was presided over by UoG Registrar Dr Tahir Aqil. Among the guests of honour were Director Media Sheikh Abdul Rashid, Director Student Services Centre (SSC) Muhammad Yaqoob and Deputy Director Anti-Corruption Gujrat Muhammad Sajjad Gondal.

QEC Deputy Director Muhammad Azmat Farooq moderated the event.

Farid Ahmad emphasised that the whole nation must declare a war against corruption and its forces. He suggested compulsory anti-corruption training as part of universities’ curriculum.

Dr Tahir Aqil said that promotion of positive values can help get rid of corruption as well as many other social evils.

“Exceeding or overstepping one’s authority is the ultimate cause of our intellectual, social and moral deterioration. A candid and honest approach in our interactions and dealings will go a long way in jettisoning various social problems and baneful social trends,” Sheikh Rashid said. Muhammad Yaqoob highlighted the role of student societies in promoting positive values among students. Director IHRM said students anti-corruption campaign augers well for the progress of the nation.
