Injured anti-polio campaigner dies

PESHAWAR - Another female anti-polio campaigner, who was attacked by unknown militants, succumbed to her injuries in the Peshawar Lady Reading Hospital on Friday.
She was targeted by armed assailants in Kaga Wala area of Badhabera along with her colleague on May 28. Her female colleague was killed on the spot while Sumbal was shifted to the hospital in injured condition. She was hospitalised for the last 10 days.
It was not the first incident when anti-polio campaigners were targeted. In various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Peshawar several female and male anti-polio campaigners had been gunned down.  Security forces, following the Badhabera incident have arrested 14 suspects from the suburbs of Peshawar in connection with the attack.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced temporary suspension of anti-polio activities after the incident.
Separately, the funeral prayer of the killed police personnel in Dawoodzi blast was offered in Peshawar Police Line, which was attended by Inspector General of Police Ihsan Ghani, Capital City Police Officer Liaqat Khan and other high ranking police officers.
The dead bodies of the martyred police personnel were sent to their native villages where they were laid to rest.
