LAHORE- Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) senior vice president Col (retd) Asif Dar has demanded removal of the incompetent PTF officials for not only choosing the wrong venue to hold the Davis Cup tie but also for bringing disgrace to Pakistan tennis and sports.
Talking to The Nation on Friday, Col Dar said: “When the PTF officials were asked by the ITF to choose a neutral venue for holding Davis Cup tie againstNew Zealandat neutral venue, they, despite knowing the anti-Muslims act, took a wrong decision by choosingMyanmaras a neutral venue out of 200 countries of the world. Resultantly, the PTF got slap on its face inMyanmarwhen almost won tie was awarded toNew Zealandon flimsy grounds i.e. sub-standard courts.”
He said that the PTF officials instead of considering this disgrace enough, lodged an appeal and sent a player i.e. Aisamul Haq to plead the case inLondon. “It is known fact that players play their game in the arenas and out of arena, matters are handled by officials. Sending Aisam to the ITF was not only an out of context move but also a proof that the PTF officials have accepted their incompetency,” he said and added: “The ITF ruthlessly rejected the appeal inflicting more disgrace on PTF andPakistansports.”
He said the PTF president's three-year deputation to Sudan and secretary's permanent absence, being Quetta employ, forced the PTF officials to hand over its affairs to treasurer who was enjoying third term in violation of sports policy.”
“How shameful this act was that on one hand, the PTF representatives signing time and again resolutions against Gen Arif Hasan's third tenure but in own house, third termer is running the PTF show. Seeing such a mess in the PTF, some of their opponents offered them their support if their undue demands were honoured by the PTF president and secretary. They both bowed in front of them and honoured their demands by signing forged documents which is all on record,” he added.
“Should we allow the PTF officials to continue with their anti-tennis and anti-sports designs or replace them with competent and dedicated ones,” he questioned and added: “Sooner we do so, better it will be forPakistantennis and sports.”
