JI Shura for gearing up electoral reforms

LAHORE - The central Shura of the Jamaat-i- Islami, has called for expediting the process of electoral reforms in order to remove the weaknesses in the election system and ensure free, fair and transparent elections.
A resolution adopted by the JI Shoora stressed upon the 33- member Electoral Reforms committee to complete its job within minimum period.
The suggestions given by the JI Shoora included confiscation of all lands doled out by the British to their lackeys for betraying the nation, updating the electoral rolls annually, making the Election Commission fully autonomous both administratively and financially.
It demanded that the articles 62 and 63 of the constitution laying down the pre-requisites for each candidate be enforced in letter and spirit and those not fulfilling the conditions be disqualified. It called for holding national census without delay and automatic registration of the new eligible voters holding computerized national identity cards.
The JI Shoora called for making proper arrangements for the polling by the women folk and removal of all obstacles in this regard. It also called for giving the right of vote to the overseas Pakistanis.
The Shoora demanded fixation of maximum election expenses both by the candidates and the parties, and strict compliance of this rule. It also demanded that maximum period for deciding the election petitions be fixed at 120 days. All the political parties must be made to follow the code of conduct for elections and those violating the code should be disqualified.
