Dewa’s Own, Artema Medical win Treet Polo openers

LAHORE - Dewa’s Own and Artema Medical won the Treet Polo Cup 2017 openers here at the Lahore Polo Club ground on Tuesday.

In the first match of the day, Dewa’s Own outclassed Terra Energy by 8-2½. Saqib Khan Khakwani played heroic role in Dewa’s Own tremendous triumph as he hammered double hat-trick while his teammates Emran Akhtar and Mumtaz Abbas Niazi contributed one goal each. Terra Energy, which had half goal handicap advantage, could score only two goals – one each by Frasat Ali Chatha and Ahmed Bilal Riaz.

Saqib Khakwani opened the match by successfully converting the spot penalty to give Dewa’s Own 1-½ lead. He further enhanced the score to 2-½ by firing a field goal. Frasat Ali Chatha then came from behind to reduce the gap to 2-1½.

Saqib continued his good show in the second chukker as well as he struck a field goal to make it 3-1½ while Emran Akthar hit a field goal to further increase Dewa’s Own lead to 4-1½ . The only goal of third chukker came from Ahmed Bilal Riaz which reduced the deficit to 4-2½. The fourth chukker fully dominated by Dewa’s Own as they hammered four goals - three by Saqib and one by Mumtaz – to take unbeatable 8-2½ lead.

The second encounter of the day proved to be a nail-biting contest as both the sides scored nine goals each but one goal handicap advantage helped Artema Medical win the thrilling match 9½-9. Raja Arslan Najeeb emerged as hero of the day as he hammered superb six goals for Artema Medical while Omar Asjad Malhi, Daniyal Sheikh and Mir Huzaifa Ahmed contributed one goal apiece.

BBJ Pipes players also played fearless polo and also hammered nine goals but only half goal handicap advantage became the main hurdle between them and the victory. Ahmad Nawaz Tiwana was their top scorer, who banged in brilliant eight goals while the remaining one came from Abdul Rehman Monnoo.

Today (Wednesday), two matches will be contested as Remington Polo will take on Dawood Group in the first encounter at 2:00 pm while Black Horse Paints will play against Guard Group in the second match at 3:00 pm.
