Agencies -ATTOCK/CHINIOT/MULTAN/FAISALABAD-Thirteen persons including 11 persons of two families were killed in two road accidents and another two including a woman were crushed to death by passenger trains in separate incidents here on Sunday.
In Attock, three members of a family died in road accident on Pindi-Fatehjang Road here on Sunday.
The police sources said that Muhammad Siddique, a resident of Fatehjang along with his wife Matloob Bibi and son Muhammad Asif was on the way to Fatehjang in a Szuki car (LHX 125). Near Dhok Miskeen, a speeding dumper (TJK-270) collided head-on with the car. As a result Siddique, his and son died on the spot. The driver of the dumper whose identity could not be ascertained escaped from the scene of the accident. The police have registered a case against the fleeing driver.
In Chiniot, eight members of a family were killed and four others suffered injuries in road accident on Chiniot-Lahore Road late the other night.
The police said that the accident occurred when a speeding dumper truck rammed into a Suzuki van, carrying 12 passengers from Mandi Bahuddin to Jhang. Resultantly, eight persons were killed on the spot and four others got injured.
On information, rescuers rushed to the scene and shifted the dead bodies and injured to Chiniot District Headquarters Hospital. Doctors at the hospital said that condition of two injured women is critical.
Identity of the deceased persons could not be ascertained immediately. A case has been registered and further investigation is under way, the police said.
On the other hand, two persons including a woman were crushed to death by moving trains in separate incidents occurred in Faisalabad and Multan on Sunday.
The police said that a man, appeared to be 31-year-old, was crushed to death by a passenger train in Sahianwala area. The incident is to have been occurred due to lack of railway crossing gates.
Following the incident, relatives staged a protest against the local administration and blocked the track by burning tyres. They demanded the establishment of gate at the crossing to avert accidents.
The protest also affected Karakoram Express and Pakistan Express.
In Multan, a woman was crushed to death by Karachi Express train in Piran Ghaib area. The police said that the woman was returning home after cutting grass for cattle.
The police said that identity of the woman could not be ascertained yet. However, the dead body was shifted to Nishtar Hospital for medic-legal formalities and identification.
