Rahim Yar Khan-State Minister for Education and Professional Training Balighur Rehman expressed the hope that Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will keep up its leading role in reaching to the country’s remote regions for enhancing literacy rate and providing higher education.
While inaugurating the AIOU building in Rahim Yar Khan , Mr Balighur Rehman lauded the role of the university in meeting educational needs of South Punjab, said a press release issued here on Sunday.
The minister mentioned about the government’s recent measures for upgrading educational facilities in the country through the Higher Education Commission and other public sector institutions.
The building. Completed at a cost Rs138 million, provides comprehensives faculties to local students that include two labs, library, conference halls, ten class rooms, video conferencing space and a mosque.
In his address of welcome, AIOU Vice Chancellor Dr Shahid Siddiqui thanked the local philanthropist Chaudhry Munir Ahmed for his generous donation for the campus .
He mentioned about various initiatives taken to strength students’ support system and upgrading its infrastructure network. He claimed that over 0.7 million students have been enrolled in 44 regional centres nationwide during Spring-2016 admissions. He said the AIOU has achieved a singular distinction, having largest academic and infrastructure network in the country, with 44-campuses and thousands of tutorial centres.
While addressing, AIOU RY Khan Assistant Regional Director Muhammad Adnan said that currently over 6,000 students including 2,000 in BEd programme are benefiting from this campus .
