MULTAN-Punjab Governor Malik Rafiq Rajwana has said that agriculture plays the role of backbone in national economy and revolution could be brought in agri sector by inventing high yielding seeds and introducing effective controls for diseases through research.
He observed this during his visit to Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Agriculture (MNSUA) here on Wednesday.
“What we need today, is to teach our students everything including knowledge, skill and technology so that they could serve the country,” he emphasised. He said that today’s knowledge is based on research and promotion of research is the need of the hour to resolve problems being faced by agriculture.
The governor stressed the need for boosting coordination between farmers and the varsity so that the researchers could find out solutions to the problems faced by them. “The coordination between professional field and research institutions is a must for progress of the country,” he added. He said that Pakistan could boost its exports by increasing the production of cotton and mango in South Punjab. He stressed upon the agricultural experts to put special emphasis on both the crops.
He lauded the efforts of the vice chancellor and faculty of MNSUA and said that the varsity took to the path of progress in a very short period.
Briefing the Governor, the VC of MNSUA Prof. Rao Asif Ali said that the varsity was allotted 185 acres of land in Multan and five acres Jalalpur Pirwala. He added that the new building of the varsity was under construction which contained Academic and Admin blocks, faculty, Girls and Boys hostels and staff colony. He said that an experimental farm was developed on the land allocated in Jalalpur Pirwala.
He revealed that the students of the varsity were offered a mandatory Chinese language course and soon MPhil and PhD classes would be launched. He said that work relationship with many international institutions was forged which benefited the students a lot.
