LONDON (BF)-Britain and Brazil shared the lead for International Emmy nominations with six apiece, including acting nods for Sean Bean and Sheridan Smith.  Sean Bean, best known for his roles in The Lord Of The Rings and Game Of Thrones, received a nomination for his performance as a transvestite teacher in Accused. The BBC One series, created by writer-producer Jimmy McGovern, is also up for best drama series.
Sheridan, known for her comedic roles on stage and TV, was recognised for playing the wife of Ronnie Biggs, who was involved in the 1963 Great Train Robbery, in the ITV drama series Mrs Biggs, for which she won the BAFTA TV Award for best actress. The other British nominees include Chris O’Dowd’s comedy Moone Boy, BBC documentary Freddie Mercury: The Great Pretender, and Secret State for TV movie/mini-series. Britain also led the Kids Awards with four nominations , followed by three apiece for France and Japan. The British children’s programming nominees include Ben And Holly’s Little Kingdom, Room On A Broom, Same But Different and Pet School. The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced that 36 nominees from 19 countries will be competing in nine categories for the International Emmys, which honour excellence in TV programming outside the US. France had three nominations , while Germany, Japan, Mexico, South Africa and South Korea each had two nominations .
