Judge lodges FIR against lawyer

ISLAMABAD - Islamabad police have booked a prominent and respected lawyer of Supreme Court Salman Akram Raja under the Telegraph Act, for allegedly threatening Justice Jawad S Khawaja of Supreme Court of Pakistan through a mobile text message, police informed on Tuesday.
According to details, Assistant Registrar Supreme Court Ijaz Ahmed reported to the Secretariat police station on Monday, 7th October, that Salman Akram Raja advocate on July 27, 2013 had allegedly threatened senior judge of Supreme Court Justice Jawad S Khawja by sending a mobile text message on cell phone.
According to the police, Salman Akram Raja had sent a message on July 27, 2013. However, it is still a mystery why did the police took such a long time to register the FIR. According to the crime diary of Islamabad capital territory police, the incident had occurred on July 27, 2013, while the complainant reported the incident to police on October 7, 2013.
Following the application, the Secretariat police station lodged an FIR against Salman Akram Raja under the telegraph act in the wee hours on Monday. The police made the information public on the following day on Tuesday.
"Yes, we have booked Salman Akram Raja under the 25-D telegraph act and an FIR No 159 has been registered," said a spokesperson of Islamabad police while talking to The Nation.
Until filing of this report, no arrest was made in this regard, however, police officials said they were investigating the matter.
When contacted to get further details regarding the case, Irum Abbasi, the ASP Secretariat, did not attend the call made both on her official and personal phone numbers throughout the day. Finally the lady police officer picked up the call at 10 PM and excused herself from talking to this correspondent in regard to the case pertaining to FIR registered against Salman Akram Raja, arguing that she was in middle of an official meeting.
"Gentleman, I'm in the middle of an official meeting, can only revert back to you as soon as the meeting gets over," the lady police officer told this correspondent at 10:05PM. However, she did not respond till the filing of the report.
Saleem Raza, the investigation officer of this case, confirmed to The Nation that Justice Jawad S Khawja had reported to police about the alleged message he found threatening.
