LAHORE –National Accountability Bureau Punjab Director General Khursheed Anwar Bhinder on Monday distributed cheques among 250 affectees of Double Shah in connection with campaign started to disburse around Rs24 million to 900 affectees .
The ceremony was held at the NAB Complex in Lahore which was also attended by affectees and senior officers of NAB, the NAB spokesman said.
Addressing the ceremony, Bhinder said that Rs24 million would be distributed this week amongst 900 affectees of the Double Shah scam, including payments of verified claims of less than or equal to Rs100, 000.
The NAB DG said that Syed Sibtul Hassan Gilani alias Double Shah was convicted by Accountability Court and sentenced to 14 years of jail term for depriving people of more than Rs 9 billion.
Double Shah was accused of embezzling Rs 5.5 billion whereas rest of the amount was embezzled by four other groups. Sources in the NAB claimed that more than 350 agents of Doubles Shah were also involved in embezzlement. Out of them, only 27 people were arrested who possessed properties. The Spokesman said that NAB so far has recovered Rs 3.4 billion from Double Shah and his around 85 properties have been confiscated by NAB on the orders of NAB court.
 He was of the view that by the auction of these properties, the NAB would be able to recover 80 to 90 percent looted amount from Double Shah and deliver this to affectees .
The NAB Punjab has recently established a special claim verification cell to speed up the recovery and disbursement process. He further added that the NAB Punjab has already made 100 percent payment to 6,500 affectees .
