Sharmila fetes owners, journalists

KARACHI  - Advisor to CM on Media, Sharmila Farrooqui hosted a dinner in honour of bodies of newspaper owners (APNS), editors (CPNE) and different bodies of journalists including PFUJ, KUJ and KPC at a local hotel on Sunday.
One minute silence was observed for the departed souls of victims of target killings in Karachi and those soldiers and civilians who are under the avalanche in Siachen glacier.
Speaking on the occasion, she said that media was her extended family and people in media have always supported her struggle for democracy whether she was in the government or not. This support will continue, she added.
Sharmila said it was not an official dinner and she has hosted this dinner in her personal capacity. Sindh Minister Rafique Engineer, Special Assistance Rashid Rabbani, Special Assistant to CM, Waqar Mehdi, PBC Managing Director Murtaza Solangi, Secretary Sindh Information Qazi Shahid Pervez, President All Pakistan Newspapers Society Sarmad Ali, general secretary Masood Hamid, former president APNS Hameed Haroon, Qazi Aslam of KTN, Asif Zuberi, Ilyas Shakir, Mukhtar Aqil, Tahir Najmi, Jabbar Khatak, KPC president Tahir Hassan Khan, president KUJ and GM Jamali were present on the occasion.
Hameed Haroon said it was a unique day as association of owners, editors and journalists were together in a function under one roof. Sarmad Ali said that APNS will serve as a bridge between the newspapers owners and the government. Rafique Engineer said that owners of newspapers and journalists have always waged a struggle against Martial Laws and dictators and fight for the freedom of press.
