LAHORE - Insisting on the resignations of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri yesterday demanded formation of a Panama-like JIT to investigate the Model Town killings.
He was talking to media after meeting with Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad and PML-Q leaders Ch Shujaat Hussain and Ch Pervaiz Elahi who separately called on him at his Model Town residence.
The three politicians put their weight behind Dr Qadri on the issue of Model Town killings and assured their support if he came out on the roads to press for his demands.
Demanding the constitution of a new JIT on the lines of Panama investigations, Dr Qadri said he would appear before the newly-formed investigation body to record his statement. The investigation bodies formed earlier to probe the incident did not do justice with the heirs of the victims, he said, adding that removal of barriers outside his residence was a mere poly to crush his movement.
PAT chief was of the view that the Punjab government did not make Justice Baqar Najafi report public for three years as it had the proofs of chief minister and Law Minister Rana Sanaullah’s involvement in the killings at each and every page of it.
He also alleged that rulers had sent several people abroad fearing they might turn approvers against them.
Dr Qadri warned he would come on the roads to force the Punjab rulers to resign if they did not do so on their own. He, however, made it clear that his protest movement would remain confined to the Constitution.
Speaking on the occasion, Sheikh Rasheed said he stood with the PAT chief on the issue of Model Town incident. He said all the political parties were united to oust Nawaz Sharif from politics.
Rashid predicted that rulers would go home before March 30 next year. He also believed that Sharif family’s politics will end forever.
Following their meeting with Dr Tahirul Qadri, Ch Shujaat Hussain and Ch Pervaiz Elahi addressed a joint news conference to announce their support for the PAT chief.
Ch Shujaat said that bereaved families were asking Shehbaz Sharif for the murders of their dear ones. He said the culprits had now been identified in the Justice Baqar Najafi’s report and they would soon be in prison.
Shujaat said Nawaz might say whatever he liked but it was a fact he had become part of history now. He said that like his elder brother Nawaz Sharif, the younger Shehbaz Sharif would now also ask why he had been ousted from power.
Ch Pervaiz Elahi said that it was now Shehbaz Sharif’s turn to face the music of his wrongdoings.
Leaders from different political parties including Asif Ali Zardari, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Jehangir Khan Tareen and Mustafa Kamal also held meetings with PAT chief last week. They announced their support for PAT chief if he resorted to agitation to press for his demand regarding resignations of Shehbaz and Sanaullah.
