SIALKOT  - The Federal Investigation Agency remained unable to recover a fine of Rs240 million from 30 politically influential industrialists of Sialkot and Gujranwala despite the passage of two consecutive years.
The special FIA teams had detected the gas pilferage in the factories and industrial units of 37 industrialists in Sialkot and Gujranwala during a special campaign against gas pilferage in 2013. It FIA had fined them Rs249 million. Out of which, seven accused had deposited their collective fine of Rs9 million.
However, 30 others were stated to be influential politically. They were reluctant to pay the fine of Rs240 million by using their political influence.
When contacted, the concerned senior FIA officials said that several recovery notices had been issued to them for payment, but they had not yet paid their fine. They said that the FIA would soon move the court for ensuring early recovery of the big amount.
45 HELD FOR STAGING PROTEST: Uggoki police have registered a case against village 45 villagers including 20 nominated for staging a protest demonstration and blocking the traffic by burning tyres on Uggoki-Sambrial-Wazirabad Road here the other day.
According to the FIR, the accused staged the demonstration against the local administration for not making arrangements to drain out the stagnant sewerage water from village Roypur-Uggoki areas. The accused had also chanted slogans against the local administration.
