KARACHI - Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has decided to establish Business Climate Unit (BCU) in the Planning and Development Department to ensure ease of doing business .

He announced this while talking to the World Bank (WB) team, lead by its Country Chief Patchamuthu Illangovan, here at the CM House on Thursday.

The CM was assisted by Additional Chief Secretary (Dev) M Waseem, Principal Secretary Naveed Kamran Baloch, Director Investment Board Azeem Uqauili and others.

The WB chief proposed that there should be an action plan to ensure ease of doing business in Sindh.

“This would attract investment and boost the ongoing business activities ,” he suggested.

He also proposed to the Sindh government to establish a unit , having one-window facilities for the investors.

“I will personally chair the BCU, and will monitor its working and performance,” the CM said, and added that the basic socio-economic factors would also be taken care of.

“With the help of the unit we will simplify the procedure and process with the aim to reduce time, number of procedures and cost involved in the business indicators such as dealing with construction permits, paying taxes and registering property,” the chief minister added.

He further said the unit would ensure health and safety standards. “Natural disasters such as massive earthquakes in recent years are reminder of the importance of having structurally sound buildings,” he said, and added that engineering flaws, inappropriate materials and lack of sound building practices needed to be looked into for improvement.

He directed ACS (Dev) Mohammad Waseem to draw up a detailed plan for the unit . “The WB experts will assist you if you need their help,” he said.
