KARACHI - Terming Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) an incompetent institution, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Karachi chapter on Thursday said that thousands of ghost employees existed in it.

“For decades, the institution is being run on the directives of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), while political appointments have destroyed the body, Firdous Shamim Naqvi, PTI Karachi leader said.

He was addressing a press conference here at Insaf House. Other PTI leaders Khurram Sher Zaman, Abdul Aziz Khan, Dawa Khan Sabir were also present on the occasion.

Drawing attention towards the tanker mafia, the PTI leader said that on one hand KW&SB had failed to ensure equal distribution of water in all the districts of the city, while on the other the authorities had given a free hand to the mafia, which was fleecing the citizens by demanding huge amounts in lieu of water tankers.

He expressed the apprehension that continuous negligence on the part of the rulers would lead to a Tharparkar like situation in Karachi .

“The opposition has also raised the issue of provincial government’s indifference

towards water issues of the city in Sindh Assembly, while both PPP and MQM had ganged up to supply more water to certain areas, virtually to the exclusion of others,” Naqvi added.

To a question about appointment of a new governor in Sindh, he said that Justice Saeeduz Zaman Siddiqui was a respected personality, but it would have been better if the slot had been given to an energetic and young person.

“Former Sindh governor Ebad should not be allowed to move aboard, until he proves his innocence vis-à-vis the allegations leveled by PSP Chairman Mustafa Kamal against him,” he argued.
