ISLAMABAD: Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar on Friday hinted at government’s willingness to call back Cyril Almeida from abroad over probe into the controversial story which was published in an English newspaper.

In a press conference, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan hinted that the journalist would be called back to Pakistan to assist in the probe that was underway.

A seven-member inquiry committee headed by Justice (retired) Aamer Raza Khan Thursday held its first meeting to formally start an inquiry into the controversial Dawn news.

An interior ministry spokesman said that Chaudhry Nisar gave an hour-long briefing to the committee at the Punjab House. Nisar informed the committee about the progress made so far on the issue and the reasons behind the removal of former information minister Pervaiz Rashid.

The committee had been mandated to probe the alleged leaker, determine the motives behind the publication of the story and establish the identity of those who were behind the ‘planted’ story.
