LALAMUSA - A rift has erupted in the PML-N over the nomination of a candidate for district council chairman slot as the local leaders want their respective blue-eyed persons’ nomination for the post.

Meanwhile, POLITICAL activities regarding the upcoming local bodies elections for the reserved seats have been sped up. As the PML-N is the dominating party in the Gujrat district, its offices are humming with its leaders and candidates’ activities. In this connection,

MPA Tariq Mehmood of Dinga Town hoisted a reception in the honour of union council chairmen, apparently to show his electoral strength.

It was participated by MNAs, MPAs, senior district party leaders, except MNAs Abid Raza and Ch Jaffar Iqbal, which according to independent political observers, shows a rift in the PML-N ranks in the district.

Mian Tariq Mehmood wants his son Mian Sher Afgan, Ch Abid Raza his brother Tanveer Kotla whereas Nawabzada family wishes Nawabzada Tahirul Mulk as the party candidate for the slot of District Council chairman which. The issue has created a rift among the party ranks.

Moreover, it will be a Herculean task for the provincial PML-N high-ups to nominate a candidate. However, Haji Nasar Mehmood, uncle of the Haji Imran Zafar, is the only and one fortunate candidate, who has no other rival for the second attractive seat of mayor of Gujrat city.

Addressing the participants of the reception, PML-N district president Malik Hanif said that as the phase of nomination of candidates for the reserved seats of UCs completed, the candidate for district chairman will also be nominated and final decision of the high command of the party will be accepted by every party worker, he hoped.

He also stressed a need for unity among the party ranks .On the other hand, PML-Q with the feeble support of PTI is also in the arena but their activities seem to be slow.

4 kidnappers jailed for life

An Anti-Terrorist Court sentenced a kidnapping accused to life in prison on two counts and fined him Rs300,000 in a kidnapping-for-ransom case.

ATC Judge Bushra Zaman also handed down life imprisonment to three co-accused persons and acquitted two others by giving them the benefit of the doubt.

According to prosecution, main accused Muhammad Ashraf alias Fauji, resident Kalas, with the connivance of five accomplices abducted-for-ransom Ch Muhammad Anser of the same village. The incident had been reported in Mauza Kalas, in the remit of Kakrali Police in district Gujrat.

Later, the Kakrali Police had recovered the abducted man and arrested the kidnappers.
