GUJRANWALA - The Punjab government has launched the Punjab Food Authority in Gujranwala to ensure the availability of hygienic and unadulterated food items for the citizens.

The government’s efforts will help create a healthy Punjab in future, said the Punjab food minister at its inaugural ceremony. Billal Yasin said that the PFA had been established to lay out standards for food articles and to regulate their manufacturing, storage, distribution and sale.

The minister said providing healthy, clean and hygienic food was the need of the hour and food needed to be produced as per certain standards. This was just the right time to take action against adulterated food and provide safe and hygienic food. He said, “We have succeeded to educate the masses about food adulteration and the citizens are using their right against elements involved in adulteration. He said in future, the offices of food authority will be established in more cities of the Punjab while a laboratory is also being established at Lahore which will fulfill the needs of all the province.

While giving a briefing to the minister, focal person Dr Ehsan said that 1,710 inspections have been made during the last 11 years as a result of which 457 persons were fined of Rs4,584,271 while 11 were arrested during the campaign against food adulteration.
