KARACHI/KANDHKOT/MIRPURKHAS - Like other parts of the country, the Chehlum processions of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) culminated peacefully across the Sindh province on Friday.

In Karachi, over 7,000 police and Rangers personnel were deployed for the security of the participants, with snipers posted on the rooftops of several buildings along the route of the procession.

It should be noted that warnings of security threats were issued over the last few days while the procession passed through its traditional route and concluded at the Hussainian Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar.

The central majlis was held at Nishter Park where scholar paid tribute to Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and other martyrs of Karbala.

After the central majlis, numbers of small processions reached the MA Jinnah Road to join the central procession while 460 Majalis were also held across the city. The main procession including the men, women and children mourners then moved out from Nishter Park.

The mourners offered prayers on MA Jinnah Road which was organised by the Imamia Students Organisation (ISO). After the prayers, a protest demonstration was also held on MA Jinnah Road.

Medical camps and water stalls, known as sabeels, were set up along the route of the procession by various organisations and political parties such as the ISO, Jafaria Alliance, Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and others.

To ensure fool-proof security for the mourners, authorities sealed shops along the route of the procession including MA Jinnah Road, Saddar, Empress Market, Regal Chowk, Jama Cloth Market and Bolton Market following proper scanning by bomb disposal squad.

Various roads and streets opening up on to the procession route were also barricaded with shipping containers and the transport buses. Pillion riding was already banned for two days in a city by the authorities while cellular services were also shut down on the day of Chehlum in Karachi to avoid any untoward incident.

As per the security plan, about 44,000 police officials and personnel were deployed across the province. A total of 17,900 police officials and personnel were deployed in entire Karachi including over 5,300 for central procession in Karachi.

Besides deployment of the snipers on the rooftops of the buildings en-route to the central procession, the police mobile vans having CCTV cameras controlled from the command and control room were also along with the central procession while the aerial surveillance of the procession was also conducted. Hundreds of Rangers troops were also deployed in entire city including the central procession.

KANDHKOT

The mourning processions were ended peacefully across Kashmore.

According to details, Chehlam of Imam Hussain was observed with religious favour and enthusiasm throughout Kashmore, 8 mourning processions were taken out from various localities in the city and merged in the main procession which was passed through its traditional routes such as Tower Road, Main Road, Bank Road, Library Chowk finally culminated at Wadesha Imambargah.

Thousands of the mourners and devotees including women and children participated in the mourning processions as well as gatherings they were carrying Alams and cradle in the memory of Hazrat Ali Asghar and were also beating their chests.

The mourners offered Namaz-e-Zuhren at Wadeshah amid tight security. It was observed that extra ordinary security arrangements were made by police and Rangers on the routes of mourning procession whereas all roads , streets were completely sealed for all kind of traffic and pedestrian.

To avert any untoward situation more than 2,300 police personnel were deputed along with mourning processions. Police also established extra 150 check posts at the Sindh Punjab and Sindh Baluchistan bordering areas as well as entry and exit points.

District Health Department also had set their temporary medical camps in front of imambargas and along with main roads.

Majlis of Shame Ghariban were held at mostly Imambargahs of city  where Scholars and Zakirs teach sermons and lessons to mourners and Momins. Whereas All the Shopping centres , Markets, Shops , hotels, restaurants remained closed throughout the day. Kashmore Police Cheif Bashir Ahmed brohi pleased to announce that no untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the district while  all the mourning processions were crossed peacefully . He said police had made elaborate security arrengements to ensure peace on Chehlam of Imam Hussain  more than 2300 Police jawans while 6 DSPs, 23 SHOs and 2400 constables had performed their duties meanwhile to thwart any untoward situation special Bomb disposal squad had inspected the all routes of processions he added.

MIRPURKHAS

Over a dozen processions were taken out from different imambargahs in the city amid strict security arrangements on Friday.

Report said that processions taken out from Haidary imambargah, Hayat Shah Lakyari, Bukhari Ka Pir, Chaki Para, Gharibabad, Hirabad, station chowk etc led by Saqlain Kazmi, Sagheer Naqvi, Hamza Naqvi and Shah Bux Baloch as hundreds of cops were escorting them while Rangers were also alert at different places in the city.

The routes of processions were closed for traffic to avoid any untoward incident. Patrolling of law enforcing agencies was intensified in the district.

Later, the central procession was culminated at shrine Makhan Shah.
