SADIQABAD-The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) will continue to contribute to the development of Pakistan. The masses, tired of the rulers' false promises, would honour the PPP with their trust in the next polls.
Local PPP leaders stated while talking to media here the other day. They said that the PPP workers from all tehsils of Rahim Yar Khan district would participate in the party's public meeting scheduled to be held in Multan this month. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto would address the public meeting, they added. They pointed out that former premier and PPP chairman Benazir Bhutto sacrificed her life for strengthening of democracy in the country. They claim the current PPP leadership aims at fulfilling the dream envisaged by the party's founding fathers which is the supremacy of the rule of law.
They termed Benazir a great leader in the subcontinent, saying her death anniversary would be observed on Dec 27 with dignity. They said that Bhutto family rendered unmatchable sacrifices for democratic stability in the country. PPP MPA Makhdoom Murtaza Mehmood, tehsil president Ali Mehmood, general secretary Ch Shehzad Adil Bajwa and Qadirpur Union Council Chairman Malik Ahmed Ali Bhutto spoke on the occasion.
According to the local PPP sources, the party has geared up for the upcoming general election and for the purpose; its leadership has scheduled large public meetings that would be held in all provinces of the country. Just like Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the PPP has now appeared on the political scenario with new impetus and huge gatherings in its public meetings.
The series of the PPP public meetings started with the party's rally at Islamabad Parade Ground which attracted a huge crowd from across Punjab. The PPP workers from far-flung areas of the province thronged the parade ground to make their party's meeting successful.
The second meeting of the series has been scheduled to be held in Multan during the ongoing month. The party sources say that the senior party leadership including PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, former President of Pakistan and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, former premier Yousuf Raza Gilani, PPP Punjab President Qamar Zaman Kaira, South Punjab President Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood would address the meeting. It is expected that prominent political figures would announced their defection to the PPP. The exact date for the meeting would be announced later. However, it is expected to be the 15th or 25th of December. Arrangements are in full swing for successful holding of the meeting. It is being believed in the local PPP circles that the meeting would prove to be a milestone in politics of South Punjab and it would help the party strengthen its network in the region. It is also being considered that the meeting would help the party revive itself as the mainstream political force of South Punjab as it was in the past.
