In order to finalise arrangements for the Shandur Polo festival, a high level meeting was held under Chairmanship of Tariq Jamil, Secretary Sports and Tourism, at his office Peshawar on Tuesday.
Beside the representatives of Home and Tribal Affairs Dept, Services and Works, Tourism, PIA, Commandant Chitral Scouts, Deputy Commissioner Chitral and District Police Officer were also present in the meeting. It was decided in the meting that due to commencing of Ramzan, the festival will be held from July 2-5 instead of July 7-9. The Commandant Chitral Scouts and DPO were asked for the foolproof security during the festival and take measures for safe and smooth journey of the adventure-loving tourists.
It was also decided in the meeting that a Tourist Information Centre stall should be installed in Chitral and Shandur and establish a tented village, including boarding and lodging facilities for the invitees both foreign and domestic at Shandur Top.
The meeting also directed the representative of the Pakistan International Airlines to ensure the smooth shuttle PIA flight between Peshawar-Chitral and Islamabad-Chitral.
Speaking on the occasion, secretary Sports and Tourism asked the participants of the meting to make arrangement by installing various stalls of edible items at Shandur. He said that the Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa spent a huge amount to facilitate the tourists of Shandur Festival, which was being celebrated at the height of twelve thousand feet and where special event of the festival is the polo tournament, which attracts people throughout the world. He also directed the quarters concerned to install various mobile companies’ boosters at the Shandur top so that all tourists could make contact with their near and dear ones. He also directed the Tourism Department to prepare various brochures and pamphlets for the guidance of the tourists so as to enjoy each and every moment of this event.–Staff Reporter
