Finance Bill 2021 laid before Senate amid Opp walkout

ISLAMABAD   -  The PTI government Friday laid the Finance Bill 2021 before the Senate amid a protest walkout followed by an uproar of both the opposition and treasury lawmakers.

Finance Minister Shaukat Tareen laid before the house a copy of the Finance Bill 2021 containing the Annual Budget Statement, as required under Article 73 of the Constitution.

In the meanwhile, two members of the treasury and some opposition members staged a protest walkout from the house after they launched a protest.

At the first, the ruling Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) Senators Kauda Babar and Sana Jamali protested for not making any allocation in the annual budget for the establishment of a university in Gwadar district of Balochistan. Senator Babar urged that the establishment of university in Gwadar had become indispensable and it was sheer injustice with the people of the area that the government had not allocated any funds for this purpose.

At the same time, the opposition benches also made a hue and cry and then some of them staged a protest walkout from the house.

Later, Leader of the Opposition Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani while talking to reporters said that the opposition wanted that they should be given an opportunity to speak on the budget before laying of its copy on the floor. He said that both treasury and opposition made a noise in the house

Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani in his ruling that the lawmakers should submit their recommendations on the Annual Budget to the Senate Secretariat by June 14 and no proposal would be entertained after the cut-off date.
